Oaks Day Chic: Embracing Pink Glamour in Derby Fashion

While the Kentucky Derby is renowned for its thrilling horse races and extravagant fashion, Oaks Day adds a touch of femininity and a splash of color to the festivities. Commonly known as "Ladies Day," Oaks Day is an opportunity for attendees to embrace the spirit of spring and support a meaningful cause, all while showcasing their finest pink attire.

Oaks Day and Pink Fashion

Whether you’re going to the Kentucky Oaks to watch the fillies’ race or to be inspired by the fashionistas attending the show, you have to put on something pink! The Kentucky Oaks is a 1.125-mile race where three-year-old female horses compete and the winner receives a wreath of lilies, a cash prize, and a silver trophy. It is the most popular feminine horse race of the United States! Elevate your Oaks Day look with a statement hat in various shades of pink. Floral embellishments, feathers, and unique designs can add a touch of glamour to your ensemble while staying true to the day's theme.

You can go bold or go subtle with the fascinator hats and the overall ensemble.

Over 100,000 spectators attend the event every year and they’re asked to incorporate pink into their ensemble. Even the track is decorated in pink! The noble reason behind wearing pink is to highlight and bring more attention to breast cancer and ovarian cancer. This, in turn, will help raise funds for fighting it.

Every year, a Survivor’s Parade takes place in which survivors of breast and ovarian cancers march on the track where the race takes place.

The official flower of the event is “stargazer lily” which too is pink! Not only is this but even the traditional “red carpet” changed into a “pink carpet” on the Oaks Day!

Over the years, pink fashion has dominated the pink carpet of the Oaks Day. Pink bags, stilettos, sunglasses, hats, watches, and even pink-dyed hair have been displayed in their full glory on this day! Men who attend the event tend to wear pink bowties, ties, shirts, and even pink suits!

So, what are you waiting for? Head over to next year’s Kentucky Oaks and bring out your inner pink-fashionista!
